The inspiration for this book comes from a little post I published on March 2, 2011. It is entitled: “A Short Morning Prayer for This New Day”. There’s a small photo of Florida birds on the shoreline.
Here it is:
A short morning prayer for this new day
Dear God,
I welcome the new day.
May I not rush around so much that I miss the beauty that is all around me.
May I thank one person today.
May I smile more than I frown.
May I think loving thoughts more than self- defeating thoughts.
Thank you for this day!
Amen
This simple morning prayer has since become the most visited post of all time. Every day I wake up to find countless people having already clicked on this post while I was asleep. The traffic this prayer gets really got me thinking. What is so special about it?
I began looking at how people were finding The Warm Milk Journal. The most frequent way visitors get referred to my site is by typing in these key words to the search engines: “short morning prayer” or “short morning prayers”.
I found this quite interesting. I created The Warm Milk Journal primarily for people who were having challenges with insomnia and anxiety. I did not imagine that the occasional posting of a morning prayer would be so popular.
There is something very powerful about starting our day getting in touch with God, the divine, the Universe, or however you think of it in accordance with your faith and beliefs.
When I pray or write a prayer in my journal, there is usually a sentiment of gratitude. I feel thankful for a new day and I want God to know how thankful I am to be given another day of life. Often, I feel love and supported. If I am challenged at the time, I may pray for guidance.
I notice a big difference on days when I don’t take the time to start my day with prayer. I tend to be a little more harried, stress, and unfocused. I don’t smile as much.
I am apparently not the only one who experiences this after witnessing the continued popularity of that one simple prayer I posted 16 months ago…
I have decided to put together a collection of morning prayers and verses from my site, The Warm Milk Journal. These verses can be enjoyed no matter what your beliefs or religious affiliation.
I use the word “God” in these prayers, but please feel free to insert “Father, Universe, Mother Earth” or whatever has meaning for you when you get in touch with the divine.
All of these prayers are original (written by me, Debra). Many of the beautiful images you will see come from Dreamstime. Whenever I need to find a photo or get some inspiration when writing I often find what I need from them.
Use this book anyway that works for you. I am working on getting this book published into a traditional hardback or paperback book for I think many of us still like to read books the “old fashioned way”. This is the kind of book that would do well being near you on your coffee table, nightstand, bathroom, etc.
I am also creating a beautiful deck of cards with these prayers that will be available sometime in the near future.
For now I offer you this ebook. I hope you enjoy this collection.
May you:
Live a well- balanced, rewarding life of your dreams by day and sleep restfully at night.
In Peace,
