cart code copy difference download edit editing email existing expiration item message page product

If I edit an existing product -- change my email message or download expiration for an item -- does the "Add to Cart" code change? Do I have to copy/paste into my page again? I couldn't see any difference between the old code and the code that came up after editing. Thanks!
