When exactly does the download page appear, how many screens or clicks after the purchase? do you have screen shots , so I can tell my customers what to expect?

It appears at the end of the payment. No, I am afraid there are no screen shots available.

that page doesn't say anything about customising the 'download' page i.e. the page that people link to from an email after they have purchased a digital product in order to download it.

Download page and thank you page is the same thing and it says everything about customizing the thank you page.
