Unique Affiliate Link For All Products?

I am in the middle of a trail account with e-junkie and I am facing one pretty critical question as to whether or not I will use e-junkie for my business. That question is if an affiliate sends traffic to the site and the visitor buys a different product, whether or not the affiliate will be credited for that sale. If I make the URL for the affiliate links the main landing page, will an affiliate get credited for any sale made for a product in my account? Thanks!

Gregg

You would probably find this forum thread of interest:
http://www.e-junkie.com/bb/topic/2690

Currently, any of your products' Hop Links will track commissions for all your products which have their own Hop Link setting enabled, regardless of which URL any of the Hop Links point to. We will be relaxing this a bit in the near future, so that they will also track commissions for all of your products which merely have an Affiliate share percentage configured, regardless of whether or not those products also have their own Hop Link enabled. That will allow you to offer just one Hop Link for each Affiliate to obtain, which could track their commission on purchase of any/all of your products.

How does that protect us against the crazy fraudulent overzealous selling Nigerian trying to make a quick $1000 a day using our links you mentioned before?

The scenario I'd described before was only plausible ~if~ we allowed Affiliates to compose their own link URLs by arbitrarily combining their Affiliate ID with any Merchant IDs and Product IDs, so they could generate fraudulent sales across a wide number of Merchants and products to avoid detection. Instead, we require Affiliates to obtain their unique link codes from us manually for each Merchant's program, and if they get Affiliate code for just your own program and suddenly try to generate a large number of fraudulent payments credited to that one Affiliate's links, well you'd notice that pattern and could delete (=ban) the Affiliate from your program and refuse to pay those commissions.

Moreover, after that discussion of our unique Affiliate link format and the reasoning for the ev= hash value, I found out we have devised other behind-the-scenes mechanisms to actively detect and block abusive/fraudulent transaction patterns (Affiliate-related and otherwise). Because of those built-in fraud controls, the unique link format is actually by now a bit of vestigial overkill (like a padlocked fence gate which is retained after a fully-functional bank vault door is installed behind it), which we could actually eliminate without much risk. We've kept the link format as-is because some Merchants may find it reassuring, and sketchy would-be Affiliates may find it deterring, not to mention that eliminating the ev= hash value would require significant rewriting of our Affiliate module, so more-urgent programming tasks have taken precedence.

Does that mean the overzealous selling Nigerian will be out of business? What will he do next for work?

Is there room at e-junkie for him as a fraud protection guru?

Btw .. I just wanted to step in here and mention that since we do have another layer of protection (chekcing the affiliiate-client relation and the item's affiliate properties), we have retired "ev". Soon the admin will be changed to provide code without "ev" as well.

We are also adding a "common" hop-link system so to keep things really simple, you can define one URL and one percentage for your whole account.

Will this be announced somehow so we all know about it? Or just posted in a section we do not check regularly?

For those following along here, you may have noticed Seller Admin now includes a new link to Edit Affiliate Program Settings -- these are the new Common Affiliate Settings we mentioned above, and also where we now provide your Affiliate program sign-up link code. Read more about these settings here:
