Adding products WITHOUT affiliate commissions?

I'd like to add a product to my lineup that is small and cheap - and because it's so cheap, I don't want it to be part of my affiliate program.
I'd received an email like this a while back:
Congratulations! You have earned an affiliate fee of 0.00 USD for the sale (ID:2753635-3245556) of 10 'Domain Name' Tips on Wed Apr 1 2009 10:05:40 MST.
And it got me to wondering, if I make a bunch of sales to this product which I don't want included in the affiliate program, will my affiliates get emails like this when people they've referred in the past buy?
I just want to occasionally offer a special low-price deal to my internal list on a new product, but I don't want affiliates to think I'm trying to shaft them out of a commission. I just wan this little product standalone.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

If you want to exclude any product from affiliate-earning eligibility, you cannot use a Common share percentage (defined in Seller Admin > Affiliate Program Settings). You can only set that at 0% (or leave it unconfigured) and use Seller Admin > Setup Product Specific Affiliate Programs to define a share percentage for each product that you DO want to offer commission on.
If you wish, you can setup a Common Hoplink in Seller Admin > Affiliate Program Settings but leave 0% there, and then configure a % for each individual product without having to also configure a product-specific hoplink as well, so you'd be issuing just one common hoplink for all your products, but each product would have its own share % set for affiliates.

That's exactly how mine is set up, and I've got the same problem as Dave above.
If an affiliate commission is £0 or $0, there should not be an email sent to that affiliate declaring that they just earned £0 or $0 commission!
Thanks.

Affiliates should not receive any sale notification when a product with 0% commission in effect.
It may be possible that, if the merchant has a common affiliate share percentage set (in Seller Admin > Affiliate Program Settings), and if a buyer referred to that merchant's site purchases a product priced at 0.00, then they may get a notification of 0.00 earned for that free item.
I will ask Development to consider this and see if we can disable notifications for that case, or otherwise explain why affiliates may get a notification of earnings for 0.00.

That's exactly what I'm getting at ... it's confusing on my end as to how to ensure that the affiliate doesn't get a zero commission email.
Thanks for talking to dev about this. I really dig e-junkie :-)
