Replacing products

I know that you can replace a product by uploading a new one. But can you swap one uploaded file for another without changing the product id?

I ask because I have a bunch of files I want to replace but I want to replace them all at around the same time. these files are large so I wanted to upload them as different products and then swap them in place of already existing products.

Example:
I have product1, product2, product3
I upload product1new, product2new, product3new
I want to swap the file for product1 with product1new; swap the file for product2 with product2new; swap the file for product3 with product3new.
I do not want links that I have already sent to my customers to be comprimised (e.g., I want the links to still work but I want them to get the new content).

Thanks.

You can simply Edit Product and use the Overwrite Product File button on the first screen of settings for each product. Your original file will remain available until the upload is completed for the new file, then we will seamlessly switch over to serving the new file for any download attempts initiated from that point onward. At no point would any buyers have their downloads interrupted or unavailable due to overwriting a new product file.

Thanks for the reply. My concern is that I want all three files in my example to be available at roughly the same time. These files take a bit of time to upload because they are rather large.

There are actually 30 files to be updated in my actual account (though the example only specifies 3). So if I upload one or even just a couple at a time then it will take a while for the state of all the products to be updated. Some will be updated and others will not be updated until a while later.

Hm... Okay, if you create the new products and upload their files while leaving the original products and their files in place as you'd described, then once you have the updated products in place, you should be able to change the Item Numbers of the old products, so you can give their original Item Numbers to the new products which are replacing them, and that would allow you to retain your existing button codes.

E.g., suppose you have some download product with Item Number "ABC", and then you create a separate download product "ABC-new". Then if you change the Item Number for "ABC" to "ABC-old" and change "ABC-new" to "ABC", buyers who purchased the original "ABC" would still get the old file. Once the buyers of the old version have received their files, you can finally delete "ABC-old".

Bear in mind that this means you would need to have a subscription plan level with adequate storage space for both the old and new versions of your product files, at least temporarily.

As another, much simpler alternative, you could simply close your E-junkie store to any new sales temporarily while you're overwriting product files for your existing products. This should not affect pending downloads for completed sales. In your Seller Admin > Account Preferences, you can "Make all items unavailable for purchase until" some date and time you set.

Thanks again for your reply. but there is still a point of confusion.

I want both past and future links to be able to access this new product. In the example above you mention that "buyers who purchased the original "ABC" would still get the old file."

In that case, you would need to use the Overwrite Product File button for your existing products, and you can use the "Make all items unavailable for purchase until" setting to disable your store until all the files have been replaced with their new versions, then remove that setting to reopen your store once the new files are in place.
