amount button cart contains current display ecommerce hack ideal info items next number page pages searching shopping sites status total unsupported view viewed

Hi,

is it possible to display the current number of items and/or the total $ amount in the shopping cart on my pages somehow?

I would like to display something like "Your cart contains X items for a total of $X" next to the view cart button like many ecommerce sites do.

I tried searching but did not find anything.

We do have an unsupported hack to do that, but it's not ideal and can only display the items/amount status on each page after the cart has already been viewed at least once on that page. See more info here:
