I just made some upgrades to the code in myproduct. I just want to confirm - when I send out a product update email, does it send all my previous buyers a link to the new zip file? Does that link expire at a certain point? Thanks!

If you setup to send out an update specific for the product then any of your buyers that signed up for newsletters and updates will receive a link for the updated file. That update link will have the same expiration as the purchased product.

Thanks, gotcha.

So I guess there's a chance some buyers didn't opt in to receive updates? Should I send a 2nd newsletter telling people about the upgrades and urging them to sign up? Or can they not retroactively sign up?

In all cases apart from PayPal Standard, PayPal Express and TrialPay, buyers can choose to not receive updates. You can not contact these buyers using our newsletter feature.

The only way they can get an option to join the upgrade list is if you send them a free link with option to let them sign-up checked. If they click the confirmation link, they can then be on the list.

Just to clarify, checkouts using PayPal Standard, PayPal Express Checkout (this is the regular PayPal account-based checkout option for PayPal Pro merchants), or TrialPay will always add the buyer to your Buyer Group list(s) for the product(s) they purchased, since those checkout method provide no way for the buyer to opt in/out.
