I'd like some guidance on exactly how to set up conversion tracking. Basically, I'd like to know the best method to determine where each sale originated (referring website, ad, or search term). Here's what I already have set up: - E-Junkie 'add to cart' buttons on my website (http://www.themejam.com) - I pasted my Google Adwords conversion tracking code in my E-Junkie thank you page. - Google Analytics installed on my site, modified to include E-Junkie code. - PayPal (free) - Google Checkout Not sure how to connect the dots... My questions: 1) Should Google Adwords conversions currently be tracking (since I pasted in the conversion tracking code inside my common E-Junkie thank you page)? 2) I have my Google analytics code installed on my site (modified with E-Junkie codes). Should I also paste this into my common E-Junkie thank you page? 3) In Google Analytics, where do I go to see conversions / referring data? # POSTED ON: February 4, 2010 @ 10:26 GMT -7 |

Hi bcWeb, I am interested in doing the same thing, so maybe we can try together. My website is http://photographers-seo.com. I have not done the below yet, but will be soon. Check out http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.tracking.htm To answer #1 I think you are right. My ad words code is currently on just the pages where I want to track conversion. I also have my adwords account linked to my Google Analytics account so I can see what keywords are performing well (in Google Analytics), regardless if the user made a purchase or not). To answer #2 if you are using the eJunkie thank you page then you do not want Google Analytics code on it. If you redirect users to your thank you page then you do. To answer #3 you need to setup a goal in Google Analytics to see the conversions. Enter https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/rp.php and under additional settings, set Match Type as Head Match, according to http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.tracking.htm <a href="#">test</a> # POSTED ON: February 5, 2010 @ 09:51 GMT -7 MODIFIED ON: February 5, 2010 @ 09:52 GMT -7 |

I'm currently using the eJunkie thank you page (containing the product download link), and NOT redirecting to my own thank you page. I have set up a Goal within Google Analytics, added https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/rp.php as the Goal URL, and set it to head match. So will future purchases now count as completed goals in Google Analytics? # POSTED ON: February 5, 2010 @ 10:10 GMT -7 |

I would think so. Those are the only steps I have seen documentation to complete. # POSTED ON: February 5, 2010 @ 10:14 GMT -7 |

A few things to add: AdWords is completely independent of Analytics; one doesn't have anything to do with the other. If you have followed our Tracking instructions, added our modified version of the Google Analytics (GA) tracking code to your pages, etc., that would only support Analytics tracking (not AdWords). If you want to put AdWords in your thank-you page, then you'd need to customize your thank-you pages to add the AdWords code. Note that our version of the GA code would only work if you are using our standard Add to Cart AND View Cart code on every page of your site; if you are not using our View Cart code, or if you are using the non-javascript version of our cart button code, or if you are using our Buy Now buttons instead of cart buttons, then our version of the GA code WILL NOT WORK, so in that case you would need to add the standard GA tracking code to your site AND your E-junkie thank-you pages. If you are not selling downloads, then there is no reason for buyers to click past the end of checkout to reach the thank-you page, so conversions may not be tracked consistently for those sales. If you are selling downloads, then buyers have an incentive to visit your thank-you page at some point to claim their download, so conversions would track as consistently as possible for those sales. Even so, a conversion will not be tracked at all for buyers who have cookies and/or javascript disabled in their browser. This FAQ page explains how tracking works in more detail and what factors can interfere with it: http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/faq.tracking-how-why.htm # POSTED ON: February 7, 2010 @ 16:25 GMT -7 |
