amount applied cart charge check containers customer define entering info page settings shipping tax transaction vat weight

Within the 'cart, tax and vat settings page' what exactly is the 'define containers' info used for? I mean, should I be entering the amount I want to charge for each of those shipping containers and their actual weight? And is that info then applied to the customer's transaction when they check out?
