Flash Alternative OR App?

Hey, been using the service for years now, love it! But I have to say, I'm thinking of buying an iPad for traveling and other things, and the biggest problem with your site at that point becomes its reliance on Flash. Yes, I'd prefer Apple make it easier and just allow it, but that's obviously not happening anytime soon. So, are you guys planning an alternative? Or perhaps (if it's better/easier) an App for updating products, refilling codes, etc? I think you guys are running a risk with a continued reliance solely on Flash...

We have already been working on an HTML-based replacement for our current Flash-based Admin panels, so those will go live as soon as they are complete, tested, and ready for prime-time.

Our shopping cart does not rely on Flash, and it has been tested on iPhone/iPad/iPodTouch, so that should already present no problem for your buyers.

Thanks for the response. Any idea on a timeline?

Also, I was thinking, regardless, I think an App that encompasses everything in the seller Admin would be a GREAT idea, too!

I am *so* looking forward to this change -- I hate not being able to use eJunkie from my mobile devices.

thanks!

Me too! Please hurry with an alternative to Flash... Not being able to you 1Password to login is frustrating.

Is there an update on this? I would love to be able to send free download links from my mobile phone to my customers that have trouble downloading from the automated link. Then I could be free of being tethered to my laptop or PC.

All I can say is that it's still in the works, and it will not go live until it's fully ready, feature-complete on par or better vs. the current Admin, and thoroughly tested. We realize you're all eagerly awaiting it, but we don't want to give you something broken just to give you anything new at all. When it's ready for prime-time, we won't be coy about it. :^)

It's now been more than a year since the previous comment suggested E-Junkie is already working on it. Is this receiving the proper priority? Can we please have an update? Apple portable products are in wider use than ever and this is a real problem for those of us working on the go.

Thanks,
Guy

Agreed....with the 3rd generation of iPads and 5th generation iPhones coming out, there is a HUGE mobile market that we simply are missing the boat on, and it's painful to know that it's because our market partner hasn't figured out the HTML code yet...

Kind of embarrassing actually...

This only affects your ability to use Seller Admin on mobile devices that do not support Flash. The E-junkie Cart does NOT use Flash, so buyers using a Web browser on their mobile device can place orders online through your site using E-junkie Cart or Buy Now buttons without any trouble.

Downloading to mobile devices depends on whether the device manufacturer allows it, and this is completely out of our control -- e.g., Apple will only allow direct downloads to an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) through the Apple App Store, so they have left no way possible for us to get around that to provide direct downloads to any Apple iOS device ourselves.

In traditional computers, the ejunkie source code works in a lightbox style, which gives the end user experience an added dimension so that they feel they are never leaving the site.

With the mobile platforms, the lightbox style behavior does not exist. Instead an entirely new browser window opens, and in essence, gives the perception that the person is leaving the site because there is no "return to XYZ" link in the new window.

So, the admin panel AND the user experience are affected by the reliance on Flash-based technologies.

The issue of downloads really doesn't matter as much because if it's not compatible, a download link is always sent to email so it can be downloaded later...but the point of purchase is the most crucial from a sellers perspective, which is lacking to say the least

Try again...

This is not a buyer issue, it's an issue for me (seller) as I'm not able to help my customers (re-activete links etc.) when I'm in the field, which is often. I'm also not able to view reports.

That aside, the thread above states that E-Junkie has been working on an HTML interface for well over a year now. Can we please have an update on the status and when we can expect it to be available?

Thanks,
Guy

The reliance on Flash and lack of a solution in over a year is an issue for both buyers and sellers...

I say monthly service fees should be waived until the issue is fixed... :)

E-junkieGuru, I'm trying not to read too much into the silence on this thread. Respectfully, I think I'm not alone in wanting an update on something that was promised well over a year ago. Is there a reason this status cannot be provided? I think we are all wondering if E-Junkie plans to make good on its promise.

E-junkie Admin has never worked on the iPhone or other devices that don't support Flash, so it's not something broken that needs to be fixed; it's entirely new functionality that needs to be built up from scratch, since nothing of the current Flash/ActionScript-based Admin can be carried over as-is to the new DHTML-based Admin. Quite a lot of the configuration logic is managed in the ActionScript layer of things, so it's been really tedious, thorny work replicating that from the ground up in an entirely different scripting language.

Development keeps their cards pretty close to the vest, so we in Support cannot report on their progress nor make any promises as to when they will be done with any given project. I can only say the new Admin being completed is definitely a matter of "when", not "if". I really wish I could say more, but I just don't have any more to say; we in Support just aren't privy to that information.

It's going on 18 months since the first mention of this. Is it still actually "in the works"????

Yes, setting up a non-flash based version of our Seller Admin is a main goal of our development group. However, this is no simple task, it requires not just re-writing our entire website, but it also requires that we re-write the back end of our system and how it works as well.
