Stackable fixed value certificate

Hey guys,
I have been scratching my head over this for 2 days. We sell a single product on our website. How can I achieve the following:
- Buyer has multiple fixed value coupons. ie: $5 , $5
- the item purchased is worth $5
- the coupons have a 1 time usage limit
- how can we require that both coupons be used in order to bring the total to ZERO?
Currently, if you enter the code in the admin and make it $5 fixed discount on the product in question, well it will discount $5 per unit, making it essentially a 100% discount on the order (since we only offer 1 coupon).

Basically the coupons should have the same effect as a stackable gift certificate.
Is this possible?

Best Regards

I don't quite follow your description of what you want to do, but it may help to explain how discounts work.

At any one time, a buyer's cart can have at most one discount applied to each of the following, in any combination:
- The cart's Item Total (before tax/shipping);
- The cart's Shipping amount;
- The price of each item in their cart.

Discounts configured for All Cart Items can take a single flat amount (or a percentage) off the order total, but these cannot be limited to orders for any particular product and cannot be combine more than one such discount in the buyer's cart at once.

Product-specific discounts modify the per-unit price of a particular item in the buyer's cart, but they cannot take a fixed, flat amount off the order total regardless of item quantity; however, you could disable "Let buyer edit quantity" in the product's settings, so it would not be possible to order more than one unit at a time.

Other details about discounts are covered on this help page:
http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/help.discounts.htm

If you have a buyer with multiple coupon codes they want to redeem, they could just place separate orders (once for each discount), or if they email you with the coupon codes they want to use, you can delete those and create a new, single coupon code with their combined value for that buyer to use.

Yep, that last paragraph is what we're currently doing.
The effect I wanted my "discount" or coupon to have is that of a "gift certificate". Maybe that would be a better explanation. By the way, I noticed you're very on the ball. I saw you answer many questions and you're great at logical deductions. Perhaps you can have a look at my issue. When checking out on my site, minisolarkit.com using the CAD currency product, when I checkout with Paypal, I get a different shipping amount. The shipping should work as such: 1-2 units = $6.99 , 2-4 units = $13.98, etc.. I've set that using the envelopes pricing @ $6.99 and in the product options I've put 2 units capacity per envelope. This works great in my US checkout, but not the CAD.. Please note that I have remove any and all shipping settings in PayPal. So the issue is not with my Paypal seller/shipping settings. thanks in advance for your assistance!

When testing your cart with the product in either currency, please note that the shipping value being set is 6.99.

That is the value we are sending to PayPal as the shipping total. If there were any other value being added by your E-junkie settings they would display in your cart before reaching PayPal.

If you are seeing something different on the checkout screen it is because PayPal has added an additional cost on top of the cost you created in your E-junkie account.

Please also note that PayPal shipping settings are set both by country and by currency. When checking your PayPal account for any old shipping settings that are affecting your orders please be sure that you are checking for them under Canadian dollars as well as US dollars.
