Check via code to see if either paypal or ejunkie carts have contents

Some of my products are sold through ejunkie, some are sold strictly through paypal, by-passing ejunkie. Putting up two different "view cart" buttons would be/is confusing.

I use the ejunkie buttons whenever I can (as opposed to paypal buttons that lead to ejunkie) because I like ejunkie's ability to funnel folks to google checkout when they so choose, although I hate Google Checkout, but I digress...

Is there a way to check via php or java script to see if either the paypal or ejunkie carts have contents? If yes, I could programmatically place a "view cart" button on the page when appropriate.

Generally we would recommend using E-junkie buttons for all your products, so all items a buyer wants to order would be added to the same cart, ready for checkout all at once. Having separate carts for PayPal-only items vs. E-junkie items would confuse buyers and may cause them to either abandon ordering entirely due to the unpredictable cart behavior, or at least under-order as they take one cart to checkout and then fail to realize they left some items in the other cart that also needs to be taken to checkout separately.

Is there a reason you cannot sell some products through E-junkie buttons? We may be able to suggest a workaround for that seeming limitation. At the very least, you could use Buy Now buttons for the PayPal-only items, so those would bypass any cart and take the buyer directly to instant checkout for just that one item.

No matter what I do, I have to choose a course of lesser evils. I currently offer 115 products - 90 percent of those are tangible products. Most product pages simply offer a PayPal button which I can create dynamically. Using "buy now" buttons would solve some issues - but also prevent buyers from using a cart for the bulk of my offerings. Beyond that: A) I don't want to bring on more charges with a larger plan. Even if we're only talking a few dollars more, I don't believe it'd have that big an impact - overall - on my sales. If I did, I would have uploaded all products by now if it wasn't for... B) I don't think e-Junkie has a bulk upload option. Near as I can tell, I'd have to load in one product at a time which is a non-starter.

If I could tell whether anything was in the cart, I could offer the proper buttons.

We can bulk import products for you. I have emailed you an import template file that you can open and fill out in any spreadsheet program, then just return that to us.

That said, you can call the function EJEJC_cartsize(); to determine if there's any items in the E-junkie cart. However, this still leaves the problem of buyers adding some items to your E-junkie cart and other items to your PayPal cart, then forgetting to check out one of their two separate carts or just getting confused and abandoning their order entirely.
