Kindle Fire compatibility

hello,

We have had several *potential* customers contact us to say they cannot complete our checkout using their Kindle Fire.

After a lot of testing we were able to get this to work, but it was exceedingly difficult: you must go to landscape mode (and know to do so), and then it was very hard to select the textbox so you can get the keyboard to appear - you essentially had to guess and click until you activated a textbox field.

Are there plans to make the EJ cart more Kindle-compatible, or perhaps technically 'more Kindle-friendly' anytime soon? Kindle e-commerce is growing rapidly.

thank you,

Robert

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We don't have a Kindle Fire to test with (yet), so could you tell us whether the E-junkie shopping cart appears as an overlay "inside" your page on the Kindle Fire, or does it open a separate window/tab to display the cart?

Our cart normally detects when it's being viewed in a mobile device, so in that case we can display the cart in a separate browser tab for best usability; if the Kindle browser is showing the overlay-style cart, we may need to adjust our browser detection to properly recognize the Kindle browser as a mobile device.

Hi,

We did a bit more testing. It seems that on Nook checkout works fine, but not on Kindle. You are correct that Kindle is not being recognized as a mobile device.

I have screenshots - if you would like to see let me know where to send.

thanks again.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention; I'll refer this matter to Development, so they can figure out how our cart could recognize the Kindle Fire browser and handle it as a mobile device.

Hello,

Do you have any timing on this fix yet? The pop-up cart still appears on Kindles, making eJunkie unusable:

Over 3.5 million Kindles are in use.

thank you.

I just checked with Development on this, and apparently the modifications necessary to accomplish this are rather thorny, so they're rolling it into the next major update to our cart script.

If you expect many of your buyers would be using a Kindle Fire to shop on your site, you may wish to disable the overlay-style cart display in your site, which would then fallback to displaying the cart in a separate window/tab for everyone, by removing these lines of our View Cart code from your pages:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function EJEJC_lc(th) { return false; }
// -->
</script>
<script src='http://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/box.js' type='text/javascript'></script>
