I had a voice mail message from a potential customer who wanted to buy 3 of our maps for download. He created a Google account, but when that was done was presented with a "Place your order now" button that was grayed out.
Hence, he could not make the purchase. He logged out and tried again with same result. I cannot find anything on Google checkout about this, so wondered if you are aware of any issues.

That sounds like a Google Checkout issue. I've not heard any other complaints about this but you should definitely contact Google Checkout support.
