1) "Merchant account" could refer to a type of bank account that can authorize credit/debit card payments to be made directly into that account (among other bank privileges unrelated to online commerce) typically by using either an in-store swipe terminal or an online "virtual terminal" or payment gateway (e.g. PayPal Pro or Authorize.Net). You must have this type of bank account if you want to directly accept and process actual credit card numbers for your online orders; otherwise, you must use an online payment processor like regular PayPal Standard/Business or Google Checkout as a go-between to authorize any card accounts on your behalf (they handle all the card data, which is never revealed to you) and to deposit card-funded payment amounts into your account.

2) "Merchant account" could refer to an E-junkie login account that is paying for a monthly subscription to E-junkie; this allows you to use E-junkie to accept online orders using our shopping-cart service, issue digital products like downloads or registration codes, and all of our other features listed here:
http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/features.htm
...with our monthly subscription plans for using those services outlined here:
http://www.e-junkie.com/ej/pricing.htm

Note that you do not necessarily need a bank merchant account to use E-junkie (PayPal and/or Google Checkout will let you take online payments without one), and you do not need to pay for an E-junkie Merchant account subscription in order to use our service only as an E-junkie Reseller and/or participate in another Merchant's Affiliate program. All of our services, including those for use by Merchants, are fully activated and available for use from within a single E-junkie Merchant account, and you can use our cart button codes on as many different Web sites and pages as you wish.]]>
