When you configure your products with Shipping enabled, set each product's Weight to 0.00 and select the Package type as the appropriate flat rate container, and for Packing Capacity enter how many units of that product will fit in that flat-rate container.

For Int'l shipping, you can "boost" the shipping amount on a per-container or per-item basis. Back in Admin > Shipping, set your Int'l rate to 1.00 (but leave the Domestic rate at 0.00). Then you can use the Weight setting for containers and/or products to determine an extra shipping amount to add only to Int'l orders. E.g., if you have a Domestic flat-rate of 7.95 and an Int'l flat-rate of 11.95 on the same size box, then you would set the Cost of that box to 7.95 and its Weight to 4.00 (i.e., 7.95+4.00=11.95).]]>

With the offerings the shipping page has, it looks like I can either a) set one shipping price for all orders, regardless of price, and then I can do the same for international orders, or b) have int'l customers e-mail me with their order, and I'll have to send them a Paypal invoice with the correct shipping added.

Thanks again for your response.

Otherwise, we can help explain some other approach. You may find it helpful to know the basic formula we follow when calculating shipping charges for each order:

(rate X (total product wt. + container wt.)) + (container cost) + (handling cost)

Note that you can "game" the formula by applying non-literal figures for various settings, so the formula adds up the way you want. For simplicity, I've left out the matter of ordered Quantity, which of course affects the total product weight and could multiply certain container weights according to what Packing Capacity you configure for each product.]]>
