You may also want to disable Let Buyer Edit Quantity in the settings of each product, so buyers couldn't order 2 of the same item to get this discount, if you didn't want that.

If these are both downloads, you could also just create a third "bundle" product that issues download links for both other products, and that would allow you to use a Buy Now button to sell the bundle at whatever price point you wish:

What I'd like to do as part of a New Year's sale is to offer 15% off either of the books purchased individually, but 30 percent off if someone buys them both together.

I know how to generate a sale code to do the 15 percent off individual items, but how can I set it up some 30 percent off is deducted if they buy both books together during the sale?

Any help is appreciated.
