It's National Novel Writing Month - Get to Work!

Last weekend was the start of the 16th National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). NaaNoWriMo is meant to encourage people with a story to tell to write it! The goal is to reach at least 50,000 words from 12.01 AM November 1st to 11.59 PM November 30th.

NaNoWriMo’s tagline is “the world needs your novel” and we agree. We are strong believers that if you have a good idea you should go for it, and National Novel Writing Month might be just the push you need to get that great work you've been thinking about out into the world. Hundreds of thousands of writers participate in this binge-writing event each year and at least 8 best-selling novels were started during NaNoWriMo! It is an excellent motivational moment AND NaNoWriMo provides a great opportunity to commiserate with other hard-working writers. Check out their forum and see what other writers are saying about their experiences.

This will be my fifth NaNoWriMo so let me suggest one important thing, do not try to edit while you write. That will slow you down and break your concentration. Just write, finish the story and edit it later.

Once you are done you can get a friend to edit it for you, or you can do it yourself. If you are editing yourself, I highly suggest Self-Editing for Fiction Writers.

And hey, if you get something you are ready to put out to the world, you can use E-junkie to sell it. You can even use this link to sign-up for a free 45 day trial, good through the end of this year. And we want to hear how National Novel Writing Month is going for you. Tweet us about it!
