Google released version 2 of their popular desktop search software. Google desktop integrates google search and the Google Sidebar.

Google Desktop 2, is a freely downloadable application, which combines desktop search and the Google Sidebar.

Side bar offers services such as personalized news, a quick note taking application and integration with google's popular Gmail mail service among several other features.

A host of third-party Sidebar panels are available with google desktop that enhance the browsing experience

The latest plug-ins for sidebar include

• An interface to iTunes
  
• An integrated dictionary and word lookup.
  
• Winamp integration.
  
• American Express panel to track and view credit card transactions in real time.
• The new version also displays site maps relating to the site one frequently visits while surfing the net.

Google has also released a version of Google Desktop targeting the enterprise, which is also being provided free.
