Online Payment Processors
In order to accept payment for your E-junkie orders, you need to use at least one online payment processor. You can even choose to accept payments via more than one processor and let each buyer choose their own preferred checkout method. There are two main types of online payment solution:
- Payment Processor
- E.g., regular PayPal (Standard or Business/Premier), Google Checkout, 2CheckOut, ClickBank and TrialPay - acts as a "middleman" where the buyer actually pays the payment processor, and then the payment processor pays you. These processors accept and verify the buyer's funding-account data on your behalf (credit/debit card, bank account, or check info - none of which is provided or revealed to you directly), withdraw the amount of payment from the buyer's funding source, and then deposit those funds into an account balance you typically maintain with the payment processor, from where you can withdraw balance funds into your real bank account.
- Payment Gateway
- E.g., PayPal Website Payments Pro or Authorize.Net - allows you to take credit/debit card payment from the buyer directly into your merchant account bank balance. These work like the online equivalent of your in-store card-swipe terminal pad, so you accept the buyer's card data directly, the gateway processor validates the card account and authorizes the payment amount, and the card issuer transfers the funds directly from the buyer's card balance into your merchant account bank balance. PayPal Pro combines the functions of a Payment Gateway with its own Merchant Account included, along with a regular PayPal-account payment option (called PayPal Express payments in this case), all integrated together in a single online-payment solution. Authorize.Net works with a separate Merchant Account such as you may establish or already have at your bank, and can be combined in E-junkie with other cart-checkout options such as PayPal Standard.
