James Abro began writing The Kripalu Story about a dozen years ago.
The initial idea was born during a conversation he had with Yogi Amrit Desai, shortly after his resignation as spiritual director of the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA.
Being a natural storyteller, Mr. Abro began looking for a way to tell the Kripalu Story in a way that would be enriching and healing for both the Desai Family and The Kripalu Community.
He did extensive research over the next decade, including a trip to India with Yogi Desai, where they toured the places Yogi Desai grew up and had his seminal spiritual awakening experiences.
When Mr. Abro returned from India he was more determined than ever to write and publish The Kripalu Story. The only avenues available at the time were traditional publishing houses that were primarily interested in aspects of the story that Mr. Abro felt were auxiliary, exploitative and non-essential to the story.
This is the Kripalu Story as it should be told, from the perspective and experience of someone who has lived it for thirty years. And for the sole purpose of creating an enjoyable and further enlightening experience for all of those who have been touched by Yogi Desai and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.
In the Course in Miracles it is written, “The Holiest (Sacred) places, where once there was enmity, now there is laughter and forgiveness.”
This book is offered with the intention of fostering the sacredness of the place we call Kripalu through recognition of the contributions that the Kripalu community and its founder have made to one another, as well as acknowledging and celebrating their shared and exquisite lineage.
