UTILITY BOAT PLANS speed hunting fishing glass bottom

Seller: Plans Plans Plans

This is for those people who want to build a useful boat. Some of these boats may not win awards for looking sleek but they will get the job done! Take a look below for a brief description of some of the boats included.

Format:
These plans are in Adobe pdf format. I include a copy of the freely downloadable Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Description of each plan:
Here is a brief summary of each boat:

Buddy:
A general utility boat, was designed to meet the greated possible variety of purposes and to serve each one well. With an overall-length of 13 feet and a generous beam of 56 inches, the hull seats three or four passengers and performs with stability and seaworthiness in rough waters. Buddy may even be rigged as a sailboat and it will perform comparably with regulation sailing craft.

Sea Rover:
The Sea Rover is a tri-model, ocean going outboard motor boat for general usage upon open waters anywhere. Hull has ample beam and unusual depth for rough waters and may be used as a fishing boat, pleasure craft or to haul water skis and aquaplanes. Can be build as a utility, sports or cabin model in either the 15 or 15 foot length.

Dolly Varden:
Lakers will like the smooth lines of Dolly Varden that scoots along with any outboard in choppy or smooth water. Dolly is a strip boat fashioned like the hundreds of similiar boats built by craftsmen of the old school and still being used because strip construction turns out a tight, durable, cheap and easy-to-build boat that has real water kindliness and handling ability. Carries up to 4 persons, Length is 13 to 15.6 feet with a 4.2 foot beam.

Flying Saucer Airboat:
The Flying Saucer is a fast, inexpensive airboat that will take you into shallow water and marshes, over mud flats and sand bars while still being safe and seaworthy. It is extemely easy to handle in deep water.

The boat will carry up to four passengers or three with hunting or fishing gear.

It will outrun most conventional outboard boats. Fitted with a Continental A-65 engine and a Banks Maxwell 660-36 propeller, the Flying Saucer attains high speeds even with three passengers on board. Even higher speeds are obtainable when running over grass or mud covered with an inch of so of water.

The hull design permits the boat to plane at minimum speeds. The boat banks nicely on turns and the use of both an aur rudder and a tilting water rudder affords positive control at all speeds. Another feature of the Flying Saucer is a safe mesh covered propeller guard and a crank which is inserted through the guard hub for turning over the engine.

Glass Bottom Boat:
Glass panels in your boat will open up a colorful new world of underwater excitement. Such a paneled boat is ideal for Scuba or skin divers because it previews promising diving areas for them. When you use such a see through boat with an underwater intercom you have an ideal combination for a team diving effort!

If you already own a boat with a flat bottom you'll be able to use these instructions to install glass planels in the bottom.

Jazz Baby:
Jazz Baby is an accomplished portable outboard runabout performing all its tasks well. Outstanding features of this multi-purpose boat are:

- easy rowing
- trim design
- ability to maneuver well with small outboard motors
- built in beveled chines make this boat unusually safe while a new type bottom assures satisfactory operation at low or high speeds.

Constructed of waterproof marine plywood, the hull is easy to build, light in weight and permanentrly leak proof. The boat is seaworthy and stable. It is easily transported anywhere.

Jon Boat:
If you want a dependable boat to poke around the rivers and marshes then this is the boat for you. You can build this boat in two days for very little money and materials.

Its design was proven before the earliest settlers brought it to America. This combined with the modern simplified construction and light weight materials gives you an extremely water worthy boat. Add an outboard motor and a car top carrier to this and you're free to go anywhere in search of fish, fowl and fun!

Polly Wog:
Here is a planing type outboard utility boat that is unusually fast! Though quite maneuverable at higher speeds its ample beam and depth make this a good safe boat.

Sea Lark:
Designed for fishing, general utility and pleasure use, this exceptionally seaworthy boat, because of its hull lines might be called a "small ship." Its developable surface design makes possible a plywood planked hull with lines superior to most round bottom craft. Considerable flare to the forward top sides makes for great reserve stability.

Sea Lark will give a fair turn speed when powers with many inboard marine engines. She is not a fast boat but in her speed range she is a sea kindly boat that performs well in smooth and rough water.

Sea Rover:
What's your cruising pleasure? Changes are, this adaptable design has what you want. If a stylish open water sportster is what you have in mind it can be shaped in that version during the build. If you prefer a cabin cruiser, Sea Rover plans can be followed in that style too. Or if you just want to get around with ease, then there is the economy style outboard utility model of the Sea Rover.

That's not all! If the 15 foot length of the original version is too snug for you, I show you how to covert the original version to a 17 footer. If you have trouble getting exterior grade plywood I show how you can use the lap strake planking instead. And finally, you have a choice of motor mountings for rough or smooth waters.

Taxi Boat:
There is good money to be made in the renting of boats, provided that you own the type of boat that meets the needs of a majority of the boating public. Here is a sturdy, dependable livery scooter that's ideal for fishermen and small family outings. It can be powered by a small inboard motor which costs little and will operate all day long on a minimum of fuel. You'll find that of these serviceable scooters is easy to build and may provide you with a profitable boat rental business.

Wheelie Willie:
Wheelie Willie is the economist's dream and the orthodox boat builder's nightmare. A few cents wirth of nails and a cheap little heap if second grade shevling are about all that is necessary to build it, aside from a can or two of the cheapest paint available and some odds and ends.

The original boat was hammered together in about five hours and by coincidence cost about five dollars. All the tools needed for the job could be bought for a few dollars.

Little skill or patience is required in assembling this odd craft. Desgined for careless handling and the rough use to be expected from reckless landlubbers, Wheelie Willie was thrown off a dock for the launching. It hurtled half painted into the water ten feet below and has received the same treatment ever since.
