having trouble adding international shipping

I've just started using your cart and buttons on my website, so I can offer coupon codes to my customers. I've got my domestic shipping set in the handling area, by dollars spent (using the discount formula - $10 for $100 and over, 25% off for $50 to 99, and 50% off for $1 - 49. Anyway, I can ship to customers in Canada and England for a $12 flat rate, but don't know how to combine that with my domestic shipping option. This method is so confusing compared to Paypal, where you just select the country and enter in the shipping amount, and can set domestic shipping in table form. So right now, I can only ship domestically from my website.

Help!

Hm, if you're using the Cart Discount method, then those discounts would apply to any/all shipping, regardless of destination, so with that approach there's no way to also have Int'l shipments always be the same, undiscounted flat rate regardless of order amount. If that's fine and you just want Int'l orders to have a $12 max. basis but using the same discounts, we can explain how to set that up.

Otherwise, we can help explain some other approach. You may find it helpful to know the basic formula we follow when calculating shipping charges for each order:

(rate X (total product wt. + container wt.)) + (container cost) + (handling cost)

Note that you can "game" the formula by applying non-literal figures for various settings, so the formula adds up the way you want. For simplicity, I've left out the matter of ordered Quantity, which of course affects the total product weight and could multiply certain container weights according to what Packing Capacity you configure for each product.

Thank you for your reply. I ship all orders by Priority Mail, in either flat rate envelopes or boxes, so all the complex calculations for product weight plus container don't do me any good. :(

With the offerings the shipping page has, it looks like I can either a) set one shipping price for all orders, regardless of price, and then I can do the same for international orders, or b) have int'l customers e-mail me with their order, and I'll have to send them a Paypal invoice with the correct shipping added.

Thanks again for your response.

For flat-rate boxes/envelopes, you can simply go into Seller Admin > Cart Shipping Settings, then set the Cost of various Container types as equal to your various flat rates. Then leave everything else on that screen set to 0.00 or blank, and delete your zipcode to disable USPS rate lookups.

When you configure your products with Shipping enabled, set each product's Weight to 0.00 and select the Package type as the appropriate flat rate container, and for Packing Capacity enter how many units of that product will fit in that flat-rate container.

For Int'l shipping, you can "boost" the shipping amount on a per-container or per-item basis. Back in Admin > Shipping, set your Int'l rate to 1.00 (but leave the Domestic rate at 0.00). Then you can use the Weight setting for containers and/or products to determine an extra shipping amount to add only to Int'l orders. E.g., if you have a Domestic flat-rate of 7.95 and an Int'l flat-rate of 11.95 on the same size box, then you would set the Cost of that box to 7.95 and its Weight to 4.00 (i.e., 7.95+4.00=11.95).

Thank you, that solution looks like it will work. I will try it the next time I add a new product, and see how it goes.
